A monthly virtual conversation series hosted by the Rainbow Book Club that features interviews with African authors and public figures, such as Nobel Laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah and Wole Soyinka. The program provides a platform to discuss their books and experiences.

We will be discussing The Last Gift by Abdulrazak Gurnah, the Tanzanian-British author and 2021 Nobel Laureate.

A 2011 novel by Nobel Prize winner Abdulrazak Gurnah, The Last Gift explores themes of immigration, family secrets, and cultural identity through the story of an immigrant from Zanzibar named Abbas. After suffering a series of strokes, Abbas is forced to confront the past he has hidden from his wife, Maryam, and their children, Jamal and Hanna.

Hosted by Rainbow Book Club, guests are prominent African authors and public figures, including – Nobel Laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and Former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku. Discussions often focus on the authors’ books and lives.
