We are pleased to announce the results of our maiden short story competition for our ‘Rainbow Writers’ Award. This exercise seeks to discover, nurture and promote emerging young writers, in Africa. We received 173 entries from 29 private and public schools in Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos. We narrowed down to a long list of 101 and then a short list of 47. Judges for this competition, which was sponsored by Shell Petroleum Development Corporation, were Polly Alakija, Sage Hassan and Titi Horsfall. The Competition was in three categories;Senior (13-16 year olds), Junior (10-12 year olds) and the Sub-Junior (7- 9 year olds). Ten winners have emerged in the first, second and third positions. Look out for our anthology of the best 12 stories from the teenagers (i.e. Senior category) and the best 12 stories from the children (i.e. Junior and Sub-Junior categories).
