• We ran 200 book clubs in public and private, primary and secondary schools
  • We published 8 books
  • We trained over 500 teachers and volunteers on how to set up and run book clubs in schools
  • We established 13 ‘seed’ libraries in indigent communities such as orphanages and prisons
  • We facilitated the construction of a world class library funded by SHELL Pet. Dev. Co.
  • We held the 7th Port Harcourt Book Festival attracting authors and visitors from 21 African countries
  • We organized ‘Africa 39’, a project that selected and celebrated 39 important African writers under the age of 40, leading to the publication of an anthology by Bloomsbury
  • We organized ‘Songhai 12’ which selected 12 upcoming writers for a workshop and eventually an anthology of their stories was published
  • We worked with students in the 23 Local Govt Areas (LGAs) of Rivers State to write ‘100 Years Around Port Harcourt – Sights and Sounds of Rivers State through the Eyes of Children’
  • We worked with students in the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) to write ‘100 Years Around Nigeria – Sights and Sounds of Nigeria through the Eyes of Children’
  • Every month, in the year of our tenure, we highlighted an important book by an African author, staged a play and held a conversation around it
  • Each day of the week-long opening ceremony was named after an important living Nigerian author – Elechi Amadi, Wole Soyinka, Gabriel Okara, J.P. Clark, and Zainab Alkali
