“We live in very ugly times.” remarked Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, on March 21st, World Poetry Day, where he was Guest of Honour at an event put together by Providus Bank, in Lagos. “But these poems from young, old, female and male poets were anything but ugly. They were definitive and reflective of the times we live, a time in which 300 female students are still in Boko Haram’s captivity and Leah Sharibu is still missing” he continued.
Soyinka treated guests to a special rendition from his latest poetry collection, ‘A Humanist Ode to Chibok, Leah’ released the same day.
Rainbow Book Club founder, koko Kalango, represented the book club at this event which had as special guests Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Mr Newton Jibunoh, Prof. Pat Utomi and JK Randle.
