ENCOURAGING READING, WRITING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING


The Rainbow Book Club organized an essay competition in celebration of the Rivers State Golden Jubilee and Children’s Day with the theme ‘The Rivers State of my Dreams’. The 3 winners from the 100 candidates received their gifts in December 2017 during our monthly book reading at Le Meridien Ogeyi Place, Port Harcourt. We also partnered the NYSC Rivers State to impact Secondary School Students through an oratory contest on the topic- ‘Agriculture versus oil: what is the best means of adding value to Nigerian economy?’ 15 schools participated and the 3 winning schools received gifts including books and branded souvenirs of the Port Harcourt World Book Capital Programme, from the Rainbow Book Club.
RAINBOW SUMMER BOOK CLUBS IN LAGOS


The Rainbow Book Club continues to spread the Joy of reading. Last long vacation, we ran summer book clubs in the Ikota community of Lagos with a team of outstanding teenage volunteers. The book clubs meetings were organized for students of Bethesda Primary and Secondary School. Over 45 students took part in this programme. The book in focus was 17 Secrets of High Flying Students by Fela Durotoye. Our teenage facilitators were Tara Bond, Seyifunmi Shobowale, Ayomikun Kosoko and Tarari Kalango.
GROOMING FUTURE LEADERS

Mubarak Idoko, a Rainbow Scholar, is now a Yale Young Global Scholars Alumni Ambassador. Mubarak has distinguished himself in many ways. He has represented his school and Plateau State in many competitions including, the presidential academic competition, Cowbell Mathematics competition, SPAK National Science Competition and the PDTF competition. He made it through a rigorous and competitive screening process and got chosen and sponsored to attend the 2017 YYGS (Yale Young Global Scholars) programme in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. Well done Mubarak.
