Curious to answer countless questions about the last US presidential election, the Rainbow Book Club members chose as its November Book-of-the-Month the recently published book -‘What Happened’ by one of the key players in the election- Hillary Rodham Clinton. As expected, the reading set off discussions on national and international politics. Issues raised in the book included events from the campaign trail, the Russian influence, Hillary’s email controversy and her stance on abortion, family. It also widely covered, the Trump controversy, gun control, racism, feminism, the role of the media during the election, and many other issues. Attendees agreed that the book comes across as a candid narration, giving us a peep, more than ever before, into the personal world of one of America’s most prominent political families. Based on moral and religious convictions, some present disagreed with Hillary’s stance on abortion and her support of the LGBTQ community, pointing out that her tenure would have been detrimental to the moral fiber of the American society, already compromised by the Obama administration. Despite the differences in views, the book created a learning environment for everyone present.
