Books For Love

Elder L.O. Welekwe,  Ag. Director of Rivers State Library Board donating a set of new books

during Port Harcourt World Book Capital Project: Valentine book donation drive.

Show Love, Give Books This Valentine Season! That was the theme for the fourth and last book donation drive of the Port Harcourt World Book Capital project from 2nd -7th February. Following a call via radio and various social media, residents of Port Harcourt responded enthusiastically by donating fairly used and new books, for the benefit of indigent communities.

The 7 drop off centres for this programme were; Rainbow Book Club, Bernard Carr Library, State Jubilee Library, Best Bite fast foods G.R.A. , Kilimanjaro: G.R.A, Trans Amadi and YKC outlets. From these centres a total number of 2, 053 books were received. These books have been donated, along with branded bookshelves, to: The Port Harcourt Children’s Home, Bori Kiri; Priesthood International Mission; and to Comprehensive Old Boys Association for the benefit of the school.

From the past three book donation drives, 5, 822 books were collected and distributed with branded shelves to nine communities (The Remand Home, Badamia {a home for street children}, six orphanages and Port Harcourt Prisons).

As we show love, let us all remember that literacy is one of the greatest gifts we can give anyone.

Thanks to all who have been a part of our four book donation drives!
