Governor Amaechi Reads To Children To Mark Children’s Day; May 27 2008

On Children’s day; May 27 2008, the governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi demonstrated his priority for education and his belief in the importance of reading to the development of the Nigerian child, when he read to pupils of Port Harcourt Primary School, Amadi Flats, Port Harcourt.
Governor Amaechi, accompanied by the founder of the Rainbow Book Club, Mrs. Koko Kalango, read from Chinua Achebe’s “Chike and the River” and answered questions put forward by the excited pupils. The children later sang a ‘happy birthday’ song to the governor, whose birthday coincided with the children’s day celebration
The Reading, organised by the Rainbow Book Club in conjunction with the Rivers State Ministry of Education, was part of the Rainbow Book Club’s ‘Leaders Read’ campaign to encourage children to read by showing them leaders who read.
