HAPPY NEW YEAR TO OUR PARTNERS AND FRIENDS!

Greetings to all our partners and friends. 2017 was a great year and with your support and encouragement, we hope to achieve more in 2018. In 2017, we embarked on many exciting programmes such as; a writing competition, Book club activities, Book-of-the-month readings and an oratory contest.

ENCOURAGING READING, WRITING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING

The Rainbow Book Club organized an essay competition in celebration of the Rivers State Golden Jubilee and Children’s Day with the theme ‘The Rivers State of my Dreams’. The 3 winners from the 100 candidates received their gifts in December 2017 during our monthly book reading at Le Meridien Ogeyi Place, Port Harcourt. We also partnered the NYSC Rivers State to impact Secondary School Students through an oratory contest on the topic- ‘Agriculture versus oil: what is the best means of adding value to Nigerian economy?’ 15 schools participated and the 3 winning schools received gifts including books and branded souvenirs of the Port Harcourt World Book Capital Programme, from the Rainbow Book Club.

RAINBOW SUMMER BOOK CLUBS IN LAGOS

The Rainbow Book Club continues to spread the Joy of reading. Last long vacation, we ran summer book clubs in the Ikota community of Lagos with a team of outstanding teenage volunteers. The book clubs meetings were organized for students of Bethesda Primary and Secondary School. Over 45 students took part in this programme. The book in focus was 17 Secrets of High Flying Students by Fela Durotoye. Our teenage facilitators were Tara Bond, Seyifunmi Shobowale, Ayomikun Kosoko and Tarari Kalango.
