HELON HABILA, MAAZA MENGISTE NAMED THE NEW AMERICAN VOICES AWARD JUDGES
Nigerian novelist and poet, Helona Habila and Ethiopian-American writer, Maaza Mengiste, have been announced as judges for the Institute for Immigration Research New American Voices Award. The novelists will preside over submissions alongside Booker and Baileys Prize finalist Madeleine Thien, a release by brittlepaper.com indicated. The organizers said finalists will be announced in 2018 at Northern Virginia’s oldest literary festival and all three finalists and the judges will appear during the festival slated for October 10-13, 2018 for the inaugural presentation and to read from and discuss their work. The winning writer will receive $5,000 and the two finalists will each go home with $1,000.
