RAINBOW PARTNERS NYSC RIVERS STATE TO IMPACT SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

On the 29th of September, the Editorial board Community Development Service of the National Youth Service Corps, Rivers State, organised an oratory contest for secondary school students. Rainbow Book Club partnered in this programme that set to engage students in proffering solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
The topic for the debate was – ‘Agriculture versus oil: what is the best means of adding value to Nigerian economy?’. The event, which held at the Port Harcourt Polytechnic, Rumuola, featured 15 Private and Government secondary schools of Obioakpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas.

The Oratory battle saw young, talented speakers make insightful points and answer questions on the role of agriculture and oil to job creation, improvement of science and technology and contributions to the Gross Domestic Product in Nigeria. The students pointed out the need to correct the mentality that agriculture is a menial occupation. They also had suggestions on how to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on oil.

The battle went on for three rounds after which the judges choose the 3 top schools;Community Secondary School, Amadi-Ama came third position, God’s Favour Group of Schools Ozuboko took second place and Model Girls College, Rumueme were the WINNERS.

Rainbow Book Club gave gift of books, t-shirts and mugs to the winners. Every school present also went home with a bag of books from the Rainbow Book Club.
