RAINBOW BOOK CLUB FOUNDER RECEIVES AWARD FROM ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN AUTHORS

In recognition of her ‘tireless dedication to the promotion of literature and unflinching support for writers in Rivers State and beyond’, Mrs Koko Kalango, Rainbow Book Club founder and Project Director, Port Harcourt World Book Capital 2014, was honoured alongside other literary icons with a ‘Literary Ambassador Award’ by the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Rivers State Branch.
The event held on 14th October 2017 at the Port Harcourt Book Centre and was attended by some important Port Harcourt writers like Pa Gabriel Okara, Obari Gomba and Chijioke Amu Nnadi. Wonderful poetry performances were presented by members of the Seaview poetry club, students and poetry lovers. Chairman, ANA Rivers State, Mr Uzo Nwamara, spoke on the immense contributions of the awardees to literary excellence and urged them to continue the good works. He also launched the new ANA magazine ‘ANA RIV’.

Mrs Kalango was unavoidably absent as she was out of town. She was represented by Miss AnthoniaEdoho and Miss Ugochi Okoli of the Rainbow Book Club (RBC). In her acceptance remarks, Mrs Kalango appreciated the value of the support the ANA has given RBC since Rainbow kicked off its ‘Get Nigeria Reading again! Campaign in 2005. She remarked that the work of bodies like ANA contributed immensely to Port Harcourt’s emergence as UNESCO World Book Capital 2014. She thanked ANA for the honour, saying she was at once humbled and encouraged to keep up the work.
