To spread the joy of reading, the Rainbow Book Club (RBC) ran a summer programme for children in an indigent community in Lagos this summer. RBC founder, Mrs Koko Kalango, led a team of 4 pre-university student volunteers to run the programme at Bethesda School in the Ikota community.
Bethesda Child Support Agency, an NGO established in 2004 has set up 4 primary schools and 2 secondary schools with over 700 beneficiaries in the Ikota, Matogun, Bariga and Ijaiye-Ojokoro communities in Lagos. All pupils of Bethesda Schools are on scholarship.
The young ladies who volunteered as facilitators, Tara, Tarari, Seyi and Ayomikun, all agreed that the programme was a fulfilling experience for them and said they will be happy to take part in the future. The book read was 17 Secrets of High Flying Students by Fela Durotoye.
